Abstract

Author(s): Olgun KÜÇÜK

Social media has an important place in social life. Thanks to social media, people have the opportunity to create their own content and easily reach the masses. Our thoughts about many events and issues that come to the media in our daily life are freely circulated through social sharing networks without any time and space limitations. While sharing via social media is sometimes positive and constructive, others can be marginalized. In recent years, various comments have been made on social media against asylum seekers who had to leave their countries due to wars. This study was carried out to reveal the positioning of Syrian refugees in social media in the context of Trabzon city center. The data of the study was obtained by using face to face interview technique with 202 participants. According to the survey results; the participants do not share negative content for Syrian refugees through social media. On the other hand, the attitude of the participants towards the Syrian refugees is generally negative. Again, the respondents stated that they found the most negative content for Syrian refugees on social media
