INTERNET ADDICTION AMONG ADOLESCENTS: A STUDY ON THE PREVELANCE AND THE REASONS OF INTERNET ADDICTION AND ITS RESULTS

Today, internet exists in every part of our lives. The effects of internet, which constantly develops as a communication means, cannot be ignored anymore. Internet is used meet basic needs such as communication, entertainment; explore new information, shopping by individuals from every age group and all social levels. However, average time spent on the internet increases day by day. Overusing the internet in an uncontrolled way has caused internet addiction among individuals, especially adolescents. The aim of this study is to put forth the prevalence of internet addiction among adolescents, the risk factors for internet addiction, its causes and results; hence the preventions and interventions to be applied in the light of international and national literature. Internet addiction has adverse effects on societies and individuals. Internet addiction is more common among adolescents who are in the process of individualisation and structuring their personality. There are individual, familial, and social risk factors, which can cause internet addiction among adolescents. Moreover, internet addiction has physical and mental results, which cause individual, familial and socioeconomic problems. Many community based programs and a variety therapy techniques have been administered to prevent and intervene internet addiction among adolescents
