S?byan mektebs, which were known to exist since early times, and which initially aimed to teach religious education and the Qur'an only to boys, are educational institutions that correspond to primary education today. These schools, whose structure has changed over time, constitute the first step of education. As it is known, these schools are usually built by philanthropists who have good knowledge and financial power. In this sense, it is known that there are many philanthropists with good economic status in Kemaliye district. The fact that this village mekteb was built by the villagers is an indication of this.
The subject of this study is the mekteb located in Ye?ilyurt Village of Kemaliye district of Erzincan. We learn from the document found in the Prime Ministry Ottoman Archives that this mekteb was built by the villagers in 1909. There is no construction inscription on the building. The mekteb which belongs to its head 20th century, is important because it is a structure that has survived until today with its façade features. In addition, introducing this structure, which has not been recorded before, to the scientific world is another aim of the research. It is one of the rare examples in Kemaliye and even Erzincan that can survive today. This study is also important in this respect. Thus, this structure will be introduced and inventoried by us for the first time. The mekteb is used as a village mansion today. Refunctioning the building as a village mansion was a good decision. Here, on important days, the people of the village come together to chat, and if a decision is to be taken about the village, they gather here again.
We can say that the building was damaged by some faulty interventions. For this reason, as a result of the study, suggestions for the protection of the building with a whole approach were also stated.
