HISTORY PEDAGOGY PROGRAM STUDENTS' VIEWS ABOUT IDEAL HISTORY TEACHER

The teacher is one of the most important elements of the education system. The success of the education system is directly proportional to the success of the teacher. For this reason, the candidates of teachers in the education faculty should receive an adequate education about the qualifications of the teaching profession. Prospective teachers' opinions should be investigated in order to demonstrate the adequacy of the education they receive in relation to their professional qualifications. In the process of teacher training, candidates' opinions about the qualifications of the teaching profession provide important information to us. Determining the level of knowledge and consciousness of the prospective teachers about the qualifications of the teaching profession may shed light on the new structuring of the courses in the education faculties of teacher educators. The aim of this study reveal is that history pedagogy program students views on the ideal history teacher. The study was designed according to a qualitative approach and an open-ended survey was used as a data collection tool. With the items which included in the open-ended survey form in the view of the students of the history pedagogy program, tried to reveal the professional knowledge, skills, attitudes and values have to require by the ideal history teachers. The scanning method with obtain data subject to content analysis. The study group consists of 75 teachers canditates who have been edu-cated in Karadeniz Technical University's history pedagogy program in 2018-2019 academic year. According to the findings it is revealed that history pedagogy program students do not have enough information which should be included in the history teacher about the professional knowledge and skills. For this reason, it is understood that these teacher candidates could not put forth a healthy perspective on knowledge and skills regarding a qualified history teacher.
