Codex Cumanicus, which has a unique place among historical Kipchak Turkish works in terms of vocabulary and content, has a rich vocabulary on various subjects. Animal names are part of this vocabulary. It is known that the vocabulary of animal names dates back to the earliest periods of the Turkish language. In historical times, some of these words have various connotations and titles, besides their own meanings. As the lifestyle changed, so did the perspective of people, and the meanings that some animal names gained through connotations continued to change. The vocabulary of animal names reflects people’s beliefs, views and spiritual worlds as well as providing important information about the lifestyle, social and economic life of the people. It is known that the vocabulary of Codex Cumanicus, which represents the Northern part of Kipchak Turkish, is similar to most of today’s Kipchak dialects. One of these dialects is Kazan-Tatar language.
