WRITTEN EXPRESSION SKILLS OF FOREIGN STUDENTS: KARAMAN SAMPLE

Abstract

Author(s): Hülya Aşkın BALCI

The aim of this study, which analyzes Turkish written expression skills of the students learning Turkish as foreign language in Karamano?lu Mehmetbey University, is to determine the mistakes they make and offer suggestions based on the results. The data of the declaration was obtained from the compositions including 250-300 words that students wrote about “to complete a tale” The findings were classified as phonetics errors, grammatical errors, syntactic errors and idioms errors. The study is analysed with respect to error analysis approach and the reason behind it was the importance of writing in foreign language learning. Because language teaching is aimed at gaining skills and practice rather than being an information course, it is necessary to make the students learning Turkish as a foreign language gain comprehension skills( listening and reading) and expression skills( speaking and writing). Although writing skill brings up the rear in especially foreign language teaching, speaking a language very well or understanding whatever you listen to is not enough for knowing a language well. The person learning Turkish as a foreign language should also be able to express himself/herself in writing
