WHY DONT YOU LAUGH A STUDY ON NASREDDIN HODJA JOKES AND THEIR TRANSLATIONS INTO GERMAN

Abstract

Author(s): Mazlume DEMÄ°RCÄ°

When a translator wants to translate the comic, he must be ready for a two-fold: First, it must provide an equivalent level of communication, so that, secondly, this level can be transferred to an equivalent parody. The aim of this study is to analyze the comic as one of the major cultural specifics and display them using text examples. As a corpus are used humor texts; we focused here only to Nasreddin Hodja jokes. It should be examined critically on translation theories in wich way such humor texts were translated into German. The humor texts are examined both on the syntacticsemantic field and on the cultural field.
