Abstract

Author(s): Canan ÇİTİL Emine DURMUŞ

This study aims to explain what kind of things women don’t forgive in their marriages and
their reasons. The study was carried out with 117 married women from different occupational groups.
Participants have a duration of marriage between 3 months and 53 years and their average of age is
39.82. Socio-demographic attributes of the participants and the incidents they wouldn’t forgive in their
marriages were collected via a personal data collection form. The data gathered was analyzed with
content analysis, one of the qualitative data analysis techniques. Based on the findings of the study, the
incidents that women wouldn’t forgive are grouped under 14 main and 5 sub-categories. Among the
first ranks are (1) cheating, (2) violence and (3) bad habits. The reasons why women wouldn’t forgive
these three most repeated incidents are classified comparatively under 17 main categories. Findings
show that women wouldn’t forgive cheating, violence and bad habits because they are against the
equality of woman and man in addition to ending the love and respect between the couple and
damaging the honor of womanhood.
