Openwork as decoration method is to give lace appearance to surfaces with different techniques. Openwork technique is applied in textile and fashion decoration sectors as well as in sectors such as ceramics, wood, glass, furniture. In this ornament technique, different processes are applied on each surface and gaps which are compatible with each other are obtained. While in ceramic; openwork is formed by cutting or drilling parts from the surface, in textile; gaps are left on the fabric by means of threads. From the fabric which is made ready for processing by pulling or cutting the yarns, the two or three yarns are knitted respectively by wrapping around the sewing needle and openwork pierces are obtained. The rhythmic, harmony of them, openwork ornaments, are formed of geometric and floral motifs. While it is mostly used for decorative purposes in designs, it has found functional application area as well. Vases with openwork decor for arranging flowers, filters that prevent insects or dust from entering the liquid containers, censers and scoops are among the products where the openwork technique is used for functional purposes. The main aim of this study is to examine the usage areas of openwork technique applied in ornament or functional purpose in design and to create sample garment designs in which openwork is used as ornament in terms of fashion design. In research based on descriptive analysis method; The definition and history of the openwork technique, the application of this technique in studies in different sectors and examples are emphasized. In this study, garment designs have been used in which openwork was used as ornament. The pattern of these designs have been prepared with drapping technic and prototypes of the models have been made and the designs evaluated in terms of product.
