TYPICAL READING PROBLEMS IN GERMAN LANGUAGE AND FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHING

Abstract

Author(s): Recep AKAY

Reading and understanding texts have an important place both in learning of the native language and of the foreign language. Reading has importance in the daily life and in the follow-up of the written information. It is not only an activity to fill free time but also it is necessary for learning and craft knowledge. The different researches were made about the importance of the reading in the teaching foreign language and their results were published. Especially, according to results of the researches that were made between 1998 and 2000 of OECD, it was determined that even young and adults even in the developed countries have a difficulty in reading and understanding newspapers, journals and stories. Additionally, the foreign students have a difficulty in reading and understanding because they have an inadequate language competence or they remain incapable. The answers of two questions are searched to overcome these problems: 1. which rules are followed in the reading lesson during teaching of foreign language? 2. Which acts of learning are constructed in order that the students improve reading and understanding competence?
