The main problem of this research consists of "What is the place and importance of Turkish Makam Music in primary education process?" question. Briefly looking at the period starting from the establishment of republic till today, we can easily observe that many discussions and studies were presented about this subject. In this period of roughly 95 years, education policies changing from time to time resulted in different ideas and applications. In the research, these studies were summarized with a historical point of view in order to present the general situation. In order to determine the way how Turkish Makam Music education is handled in primary education music programs, primary education programs were examined in terms of Turkish Makam Music. The determinations reached at the end of this examination were discussed in conclusion section. However today's understanding was determined by an interpretation through music lesson education programs. In the research, the answers to the questions "What are the main problems faced about Turkish Makam Music education applications?", "What is the level of interests if students towards Turkish Makam Music?" were given by examination of related literature. Insufficient music lesson hours, problems in program and textbooks, insufficiency of music classes and tools, negative attitudes and behaviors of school managers, parents and students about music lesson appear as general problems of music lesson. Today the expectations from music education have changed. While globalization brings cultures on the world closer to eachother it also increases the emphasis on the local. In this environment it is expected from students to learn their cultural values and grow as individuals with self-respect with the integrating property of music education. Traditional folk music and artistic music are inevitable elements of contemporary school music education. Researcher has tried to present his suggestions with a descriptive regression about the subject from a multicultural music education point of view in context of national and international music education.
