The novel called “Yürümek (Walking)” depicts the problems of the individual within the context of the development process of Ankara. Ankara is the symbol of the Republic and at the same time, it is the center of transformation and change. Ankara brings a new concept of urbanization and a new concept of social environment. Samanpazar? and the places around it lose their importance. Yeniehir, K?z?lay and Kavakl?dere becomes new centers of attraction. Ankara becomes the center for bureaucracy and officials. Living-in-flats becomes popular. The distinction between the social-classes come to the foreground. Immigration from villages to cities increase rapidly. Alt?nda becomes a district of ghettoes. The novel called “Yürümek (Walking)” reflects the sexual problems (experienced by Elâ and Memet during their childhood and adolescence) with regard to socio-cultural dimensions. Young people tend to adopt American life-style and American culture. The issue of women is given priority. Moreover, traditional social-values and traditions begin to lose their importance. With the urbanization, social mentality begins to change, as well.
