THE VOCABULARY IN THE NOVEL “BIZIM DIYAR” BY SEVINC COKUM

Language is a living being with its own special features. Each language has its own vocabulary. This vocabulary is directly proportional to its sophistication. Literary Works have a special importance in the determination and development of a language’s vocabulary. Beyond the limitations of the daily spoken language, it is possible to reveal and process hidden trasures with writers and poets. In this sense, based on the vocabulary studies on the Works of writers and poets, important data about that language’s vocabulary can be accessed. In this article, it is aimed to contribute to the studies on Turkish vocabulary. “ Bizim Diyar” novel of Sevinç Çokum, one of the most important names of Turkish story and novelism, has been determined as the working axis. The presence of vocabulary in the novel using quantitative and qualitative research methods; nouns, verbs, proverbs, idioms, reduplication, cliche words have been put forward and examined together with their word frequency.
