This study, which was conducted in order to determine the approaches of ba?lama (Turkish folk music instrument with three double strings) luthiers towards ba?lama production, was prepared in the screening model; interview method was used to obtain the data and the data was analized through content analysis. In interviews with 10 (ten) "ba?lama" luthier's who work in the city center of Ankara it was found out that ba?lama luthiers have difficulty in finding apprentices; they do not have a trade association; they supply the trees used for ba?lama production from Black Sea Region; the demand for ba?lama is less compared to past; they have economic and legal expectations ; there is complaint from the costumers; there is no consciousness about tree saving; the fret system of Cafer AÇIN is adopted, the optimal place for audio output is the back part of the ba?lama; the most popular polishing method is polyester and the healthiest way to combine the neck and body of the ba?lama is “kurt a?z?” (wolfmouth) method ; there is no standardization in ba?lama production as personal choices are prioritized.
