THE USE OF TECHNOLOGY IN THE TRANSLATION SECTOR (IN THE CASE OF EU-GDT)

Programs are being developed nowadays in higher education and academic settings, on how to acquire knowledge, skills and abilities in written and oral translations. Advances in science and technology have increased the need for translation increasingly. It has been inevitable that there will be new developments and innovations in order to meet the demands of the translation market. So that’s why lots of innovations in the programs and curricula have started to be developed in the Translation Studies departments. Updating the tools used in education, introducing modern educational technology tools and equipment, to have a research and studies will help the students to have better education and future. In addition to these studies, Multilingualism (Mehrsprachigkeit) should be emphasized in the education programs as well. Especially, this issue is focused in the EU. In this article it will be examined how the General Directorate of Translation (GDT) has used translation technologies since the establishment of the EU.
