THE TOURISM POTENTIAL BASED ON THE NATURAL RESOURCES AND PLANNING IN SAMSUN

Abstract The purpose of this study is to find out the touristic attractions based on natural resources and to tackle with their possible problems in the vicinity of Samsun. To reach this purpose a series of research has been done in the city in 2008. As a consequence of the research, SWOT analysis has been done based on the findings on the research and some possible suggestions have been proposed to develop tourism in the area. Besides coastline tourism (Sea tourism), Samsun potentially offfers a number of alternative touristic attrachions such as highlands, woodlands, plateaus, maintain pastures, wetlands, thermal springs and natural panoramic beaches. The main reason why these attractions have not opened to the full-service of tourism lies behind the bad-planned local touristic movements. In conclusion, to solve the possible problems before the alternative tourism and to gain the attractions for tourism around the city, both national (govermental) and local (Municipal) authorities should use their initiatives to highlight the tourism-potentials in the area. Thus, the initiative movements will contribute much to economy in the viciniy of Samsun.
