One of the main topics of classical Arabic poetry is undoubtedly mersiyah. Since ancient times, poets have written beautiful kasidahs about it. There are some who argue that mersi yah is the same as praise poetry, at the same time it should be stated that it has its own characteristics. In this study,basic properties of mersiyah will be discussed and brief information of Osman Bekta? el -Mevs?lî who is one of the important poets lived in Mosul in the last period of Ottoman Empire will be given and the mersiyahs in poet ’s divan will be examined in terms of style and theme.
