Abstract

Author(s): Meyrem AKDAĞ

Each year, thousands of tourists from Iran visit to the city of Van, Turkey through the Kap?köy Border Gate located on the Iranian border of Van province for different purposes such as vacation, rest, shopping, health, culture and entertainment. These Iranian tourists bring with their own life strategies and patterns of behavior together. However, it is still not known whether their visit would affect social structure of local residents in the city of Van. Therefore, in this study it was examined whether these lifestyle strategies and behavioral patterns carried by Iranian tourists to Van had any influence on the family structures in the socio-cultural context. Furthermore, a number of pre-existing traditional values in Van province has been questioned and evaluated. As a last, the lost values and the incoming innovations by the visit of Iranian tourist to the city of Van was discussed and determined. Briefly, the influence that the interaction between Iranian tourist and local people of the city of Van has made directly or indirectly on the social value, family relations, moral rules and personal behaviors was discussed with the assumption that the incoming Iranian tourists would have a mutual influence due to the dialogue with the local people in the public area.
