THE EU SCEPTICISM PARADOX IN THE DEEPENING PROCESS OF “EUROPEANNESS” IDENTITY

The “Europeanness” identity that is a wish being created by European Union is an othering effort based on such principles as geographical position, religion, culture etc. “Europeanness” identity has dominantly come out with the process of EU deepening. Consequently, not being internalization of the identity sufficiently and with a set of economic reasons, axis shift to the EU scepticism has experienced. However, gaining power in the direction of far right for the groups formed in EU Parliament means that it creates a vicious cycle besides constructing Europeanness identity. The aim of the study is to work through the construction of Europeanness identity, the roles of the national parliaments and the effects of EU Parliament’s groups in this construction process, and to analyze the barriers on the way of the deepening process of EU as they all cause to scepticism.
