Abstract

This study, entitled as “The end of the matriarchal society”, executed to argue whether there used to be the matriarchal era before the patriarchal structure which is now dominant around the world and if there had been, how it ended. In this regard, through literature review the related studies have been utilized. The assessments have been carried out with a theoretical framework. It have been concluded that before the patriarchal era, the matriarchal order having had a significant dominance and it proceeded for a long time. However, with property, heritage, commerce, wars, religion and institutionalization (with factors fictionalized artificially on nature) the power and dominance of male over order have increased and the still ongoing new order “patriarchy” has started. And this has led to the matriarchy to vanish. Nevertheless, the patriarchy has arrived in such a oppressive and fierce manner that it has made an effort to deprive matriarchy from even making history. The reason is that the making of history also has been reflected by males in a male-dominant way. On the other hand, it has been noticed that the studies concerning matriarchy are few in numbers and these are expressions which are interpenetrated mostly with myths and legends. The scarcity of the studies in this area and the critics directed at these studies (arising from patriarchal perception is not being able to acknowledge the matriarchal one) have stood out. In the study, it has been explained that why the matriarchy has become an unfunctional order and how the patriarchy has gained a foothold for itself. In addition, by making assessments with reference to some research results about the dominant order waiting for people in the future, the perspectives and the wishes have been indicated.
