THE EFFECT OF LOCAL CUISINES ON PLACE ATTACHMENT FORMATION TOWARD A DESTINATION: THE CASE OF CUNDA ISLAND

The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of local cuisines on formation of sense of place attachment toward a destination. Domestic tourists consuming foods and beverages in restaurants located on Cunda (Alibey) island in Ayval?k district is population of this study. In this context, 221 of distributed 250 questionnaire forms were returned and analyzed. In order to determine the local culinary specialties, a 13-items scale was developed. Besides, the scale that measures participants’ place attachment sense toward the destination consists of 9 items. In this study, the effect of foods and beverages offered at local cuisine has been examined by using regression analysis. According to results of the research, it is determined that offered foods and beverages at local cuisine effect place attachment formation toward the destination. In addition, some implications for destination marketers and tourism managers were suggested.
