This study was performed based on the connection between medicine and both culture and history and aimed to analyze the image of the doctor in Turkish culture through proverbs and idioms. In the simplest terms, a ‘doctor,’ which can be defined as a professional working in the field of medicine, is one of the main actors of health communication. Such an analysis, which is based on the image of doctors, is important in terms of forming a history- and culture-based approach oriented to health communication. This study was carried out based on proverbs and idioms in the Turkish language. Proverbs and idioms are one of the most important aspects of the vocabulary of any culture and offer numerous insights into their culture. Moreover, it is possible to detect a culture’s values of past and present through ‘proverb and idiom research’. The population of this qualitative study was the Dictionary of Proverbs and Idioms prepared by Turkish Language Association. The study data were evaluated using the content analysis method. This study identified proverbs and idioms concerning the image of doctors in Turkish and analyzed them in accordance with developed categories. In the conclusion section of the study, findings were evaluated, and recommendations were made for further studies.
