Ankara folk music, having a distinctive position among Anatolian music tradition, is shown as a folkloric factor being worth to be scrutinized with its abundant types and repertoire elements containing within it. The study carried out on this aspect focused on types and repertoires represented by Ankara’s musical identity. The data of the study consist of zeybek, düz oyun, divan, muhabbetoturak, zil havas? (folk musics) being peculiar to region and folk songs belonging to Ankara region. The data collected as a result of an extensive literature search related to Ankara’s traditional folk music source are based on musical note presented in written sources. Musical analysis is at the center of the method developing related to document review. In this direction, repertoire elements integrating region’s music tradition, register and tonic, rhythmic and makam structure, characteristic melody types and form are analyzed. Thus, the factors specifying Ankara folk music will be laid bare and musical codes concealed in an abstract mechanism will be disclosed.
