THE CROSS RELIQUARIES IN SILIFKE MUSEUM

The crossrelics , which contain prominent things fort he Christianity, were used on the neck. Those small boxes with the shape of cross were made from different metals as bronze and attached to each other with a small lock and were made in different sizes. Six cross reliquaries are in the inventory of Silifke museum. Those cross reliquaries which illuminate the belief culture of the region and the period have been obtained by confiscation.In this article six cross reliquaries displayed in the museum and kept in the storage have been evaluated scientifically, photographed and measured. Decorations and techniques used in these decorations were determined, religious descriptions and geometric decorations were studied in details. The date and evaluation were made by comparing to similar samples in different museums and collections.
