Abstract

Author(s): Ahmet GÖZLÜ

The coin found by the university students in the course of a trip in the area, when analysed carefully, it was understood that it has some distinctions from the other coins found in the area and it carries scarce features. After the source investigation of the coin was done and the silver rate of it was examined, its stylistic features were evaluated. The coin, which remained well preserved until today and took attention with its quite good condition, is quite different from the other samples in terms of its different weight. After the commercial mobility of the area was discussed by dealing with the general charecteristics of the area, knowledge about the sorts of currency used in the area was given and the importance of the coin among the other coins was tried to be emphasized. The coin was defined as three RRR by the field experts and it was seen as a rare sample. The history and the frequency to encounter of the coin and the scripts on the other coins were examined by the authorities of the field and it was found out that there used to be a distinct language (Karia Language). Unfortunately, the Karia language hasn’t been resolved properly up to now.
