Abstract

Author(s): Murat YILMAZ

The period of the struggle between the two great Turkish rulers Yildirim Bayezid and Emir Timur ended in the Battle of Ankara in 1402 and Emir Timur was separated with great victory. After the war, while Bayezid was in the captivity of Timur, the Ottoman Empire entered into a period of decline for eleven years. Although not involved in the war, one of the most affected by the results of the war was the Byzantine Empire. Therefore, the Battle of Ankara in the Byzantine sources gives details about the developments before and after the war. In the context of this study, the information provided by Byzantine sources about the Battle of Ankara was compared with the other sources of the period, while the perspectives of the sources were examined.
