Abstract

Author(s): Beyza ONUR

Today, the practice of architecture is a component of the capitalist service sector and it is shaped according to the needs of capital. With the change of the forms of production along with the post-industrial process, the changes in the roles of architectural professional practice, the roles of architects in production, their positions and the qualities of labor have become inevitable. Therefore, the distinguished professional identity and privileged social position of the architect has been transformed. In this context, the study aims to provide a discussion of how the architect is characterized under capitalist conditions of production and to rename the social class positions of the architects in private offices in the changing conditions of the architectural profession. From this point of view, the class position of technical labor in current production-consumption relations is examined. According to the results of the investigation; With the change of production relations, the role of the architects in production has changed and the quality of the work and labor has been transformed and these architects have turned into “white-collar productive workers” in today's architectural practice. In this study, it is thought that producing conceptual descriptions as ”white-collar productive workers” for the changing social class positions of the wage-employed architects in private offices will contribute to the literature.
