Cities serves inner areas, rural areas and small cities placed around by functions that they have and also meet it’s some needs from places around. All urban functions are carried out in different parts of cities and those places called as function areas. The distribution of function areas in a city is defined as urban land use. In other words, urban function areas show a distribution in different areas of cities for different reasons. The characteristics of urban land use play an important role on urban comfort, while proper urban land use makes urban life more comfortable, improper urban land causes some urban problems. The main purpose of this research is to reveal urban land use pattern, urban functions, distribution of functions, factors played role on this distribution and urban problems caused from improper urban land use in Suruç city. By this way, it will be contributed to take meaures for proper urban planning and declining urban problems in future. To achieve this purpose on-site observation method that geography’s the most important research method was used. Besides on-site ebservations some interviews carried out with relavant persons. The city of Suruç is situted in the central area of the Suruç Plain. Depending on the nature of this area that it is located on, it has a compact (circular) shape. Both the location of the city and the urbanization in the historical process led to the emergence of a number of social and economic urban functions. Administrative, judicial, military, education, health, culture and religious functions are the main social functions of the city, while industry, trade and transportation functions are among the main economic functions of the city. The results of this reserach show that there are some urban problems in Suruç city. These problems were determined as disruptions in infrastructures of transportation, electricity, running water, etc., difficulties in access to education and health services and some environmental problems such as air pollution, soil pollution, water pollution urbanization on agricultural fields.
