SPORT TEKKES AND INSTITUTIONALIZATION IN OTTOMAN EMPIRE

In this study sport lodges and their impact on modern institutionalization are examined. The literature has been reviewed. It is thought that explanation of the structures and services of sport lodges in Ottoman period will contribute to sport clubs in various aspects. Sport lodges have had important roles in Turkish Cultural History. They had impact on scientific social economic and political life both in Seljuk and Ottoman Empire. They carried out numerous functions as a tool of bringing up strong individuals, improvement of social and cultural collaboration integration and entertainment of people. Lodges were education and service institutions as well as sport residences which functioned as the pioneer of sport activities in community. They had their management systems and institutions. They had more advanced features than modern clubes in terms of structure and organization Today’s social foundations of institutionalization were implemented in Ottoman Empire. They were observed to have been opened with state support and run with endowment understanding It has been concluded that the management styles of wrestling lodges which were opened in various places in Ottoman Empire, wrestlers who were trained and accommodated there and generally the training methods of athletes were as modern and advanced as they are valid even today. The sport lodges served in a more advanced level than the modern club perception. Some parts of these services can be implemented by Turkish sport federation only nowadays. Conditions of Sport clubs in present days must be improved in terms of administration financial and sport.
