Abstract

Author(s): Ibrahim YENEN

This article evaluates the news of "religious discrimination" published in newspapers according to five research questions. The main findings of the research were obtained from news related to religion published in Hürriyet, Posta, Sözcü, Sabah, Habertürk and Milliyet newspapers between 05 May 2015 and 05 August 2015. When we look at the results of the study in terms of the data, it is understood that the news of religious discrimination type is included in the category of "Islamophobia" in particular. As a type of religious discrimination, the Islamophobia news seems to focus on four main themes: "exile", "politics", "forbidden" and "mosque attack". It is understood that the "we and they" opposition detected in the news is shaped through Islamophobia in the context of religious discrimination. According to this, those who are exposed to Islamophobia are "good", those who practice or support Islamophobia are "bad".
