SOCIAL MEDIA AND POLITICAL PARTICIPATION: A SURVEY IN 2017 REFERENDUM

Today, social media are heavily used by young people. At the same time, the use of social media sites could saves time and money, and give to the users an opportunity in terms of political participation. Social Networks make the political connections, because the participation through social networking was easier than the traditional ways. This research examines the impact of political participation of society through social media sites during the referendum period in 16th April 2017. The objective of the study was achieved by conducting a field survey and collecting information from 400 students studying at Selcuk University. Participants in the search results were followed the last minute developments; Political candidates, political parties, and political events, through the participation a Picture or a political questionnaire or even participate in the questionnaire through their activity on social media sites.
