RELIGION, SPIRITUAL WELL-BEING AND AGING

Increasing life standards and the life span due to developments in technology and health have made aging visible. It is necessary for the aging individuals to adapt to their physiological and psycho-social changes and to meet their spiritual needs. It is envisaged that spirituality will make positive contributions to the satisfaction of the feelings of meaning, purpose and transcendence in human life and to ensure the well-being of the elderly. In this study, it was aimed to determine the level of spiritual well-being of individuals in the study conducted with 100 people aged 60 and over living in central districts of Antalya. This study which is prepared by quantitative method; demographic information questionnaire, spiritual well-being scale and data collected together with consent form were analyzed by Pasw Statistics 18 program in accordance with the measurement level of the variables. The level of spiritual well-being of the participants was found to be medium, high and very high. The level of income and the level of religiousness have a significant effect on spiritual well-being. At the same time, income status and religiosity were found to have a positive relationship with spiritual well-being.
