Turkish poem comes into being with the contributions of different names and tendencies from each other in Republic Period. While some poets choose a way to get a mission from poetry and act with a community, the others walk alone in their own path and they regard the poetry as a concept, being independent from every kind of mission. Ziya Osman Saba, the subject of this study, is a character to evaluate the poetry as part of second sort above within the access to literature world as the member of the group, Seven Brand. Since Ziya Osman Saba constructs his poetry as a projection of what he has experienced. The events that dominate his life and feelings are inevitable items of his poetry. That’s why; in this study, the poetry of Ziya Osman Saba has been analyzed through the method of biographical criticism.
In this study, firstly, the basic elements of the method of biographical criticism have been mentioned; secondly the significant developments in life of Ziya Osman Saba have been evaluated. In the main context, the relationship between life and poetry has been proved within examples in the poetry of Ziya Osman Saba. Besides, the effects of the given relationship on Ziya Osman Saba’s poetry and the principles of this poetry have been determined. The attained decisions are up to grade in order to convey Ziya Osman Saba to current day and to explain why he is regarded as a separate poet.
