The word of gossip corresponds to a number of negative meanings in almost all of us. Aside from the functionality in our daily lives, it is an undeniable fact that the gossip mechanism adversely affects organizations. Some studies have been carried out on the factors and results of this mechanism, but no clear consensus has been reached. In this study, in-depth interviews were conducted with 30 research assistants working in universities in Istanbul to determine the factors and results of the gossip mechanism in organizations. According to the results of the study, almost all of the research assistants believe that there is a gossip mechanism in their institutions and it is understood that this mechanism affects themselves, especially those who are exposed to gossip negatively. Spending time, curiosity, jealousy, psychological relaxation have been the main factors for gossip. When the main themes are examined, it is understood that the research assistants desire to work in an institution where they can express their thoughts more easily and it is thought that the results of the research will contribute to the studies to be done in the future.
