“PHONETIC AND SEMANTIC REMAINS OF ORIGINAL LONG VOWELS IN AZERBAIJAN TURKISH

This study is about original long vowels and their phonetic and semantic remains in Azerbaijani language and dialects. As is known long vowels have been preserved in a systematic manner in the Turkmen, Yakut and Khalach dialects. In this article words which are thought to be original long vowels in Azerbaijan Turkish are compared with Turkman Turkish. The scientists` opinions about long vowels in Azerbaijan Turkish also will be analyzed. The main aim is to present that along with primary long vowels, occlusive- unvoiced consonants p, ç, t, k have systematically been preserved in Yakut and Turkmen dialects but have mostly been sonorised in Azerbaijan Turkish. In addition, sonorisation and consonant derivation in a few examples in Azerbaijan Turkish have been compared with other Turkish dialects.
