PER-LINE RHYME METHODS OLD UYGHUR TURKISH VERSE TEXTE

Abstract

Author(s): Nurdan BESLÄ°*

Old Uighur Turkish verse texts written or identified between the VIII-XIII centuries and these texts are the works that have
been shaped around a certain religious and cultural environment. Most of the poems are written with a Budhist approach. Some of the
poems that are written with this Budhist approach are in Manichaean character, while others are related to non-religious subjects. Old
Uyghur Turkish poetry texts consist of translation, adaptation and copyright works. Translation and adaptation works are generally
composed of poems without rhyme, while royalty works are written in per-line rhyme. Poems without per-line rhyme are translations
and adaptations from texts in other languages and their content and word repetitions comply with the understanding of poetry in terms
of various alliterations. Verse rhyming poems, on the other hand, are type of poetry written by the poet by adhering to the aesthetic
elements and paying attention to sound harmony. These texts, which appear in the form of copyright or adaptation, are capable of
evoking literary pleasure on the reader and the listener. These literary products, written by poets in a certain order, were shaped by the
“rhyme per-line” order, which is a traditional understanding of poetry. When the verse texts of Old Uyghur Turkish are mentioned,
these per-line rhymes poems are the first poems that comes to one’s mind. These per-line rhymes poems took the from of classical
poetry with various methods used by poets. One of the most used methods by poets to ensure the line-per-line rhyme order is the
following: changing the location of duplicates, using word repetitions, using the same root word, alternating use with close vowel,
using terms etc.
