OPINIONS AND PERCEPTIONS OF 4TH GRADE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS REGARDING THE LISTENING PROCESS

The objective of this study is to review opinions and perceptions of 4th grade students as to the processes of listening. On the basis of this objective, semi-structured qualitative interviews have been conducted with 21 students, of whom 11 were female and 10 were male. In the outcome of the interviews, their opinions regarding the factors influential in listening process, their behavior when they have difficulty listening, their awareness as regards effective listening behaviors, and factor of speaker as a part of the process of listening activity and their suggestions concerning the creation of a beter listening environment in the class were revealed. In line with the gathered data, proposition have been made in regards to teacher practices, class environment and education programs in order to improve effective listening skills of students.
