MUSICOLOGY STUDENTS’ OPINIONS ON PIANO COURSE

The aim of this study is to determine the opinions of the students on piano courses. The content analyses method –which is one of the qualitative research methods- was used to analyze the data and the sample of the study consists of 41 piano students from the Musicology Department of Dokuz Eylül University. The opinions of the students were categorized as; “feelings about the course”, “needs for the course”, “feelings about the teacher”, “piano pieces”, “practicing method”, “benefits of playing piano”, “goal of the course” and ”the things that preferred to be during the course”. As a result, students have concluded that; i. The teacher is okey, ii. The pieces are not nice, iii. They haven’t got a practicing method, iv. In order to play piano it is obligatory to like the piano and to practice very much, v. The course is useful in their work life, and vi. More popular and easier pieces should be chosen.
