MUSICAL PREFERENCES AND LISTENING PRACTICE OF SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS

As an important component of adolescent identity, music is thought an important factor on formation of identity as well. As the major factors that effects on identity, school environment and family environment are thought together with space and capital conceptualizations of Bouerdieu. The aim of this study is to investigate which kinds of music do adolescents’ interest, by which kind of instruments do they listen to music, what is their aim by listening to music, by the way the listener practices and the effect of school music classes on these preferences. The scene concept that seems more flexible model than subculture conceptualization that uniform adolescents in terms of musical preferences is the major viewpoint in this study. In addition concept of gender is another theme that is not overlooked. In this study, a qualitative research methods "survey" method is used. The data that obtained by semi-structured data collection tool, from 3 different secondary schools and 460 students from Buca/Izmir is subjected to descriptive analysis and presented in the form of tables.
