Author(s): Özlem ÖZTÜRK

Job satisfaction is an important concept that should be emphasized in the teaching profession. Job satisfaction, which is one of the basic research topics of social psychology and organizational psychology, has been examined in a limited number of studies in national literature specifically for teaching music. These studies give some important clues about the music teachers’ job satisfaction and what factors are affected by their job satisfaction. However, it is not enough in number to make a general evaluation. There is a need for empirical research on the subject. In this study, the job satisfaction of music teachers was focused on and it was examined whether job satisfaction differs according to gender, seniority, institution, and participation in in-service training. The study, which has quantitative descriptive, was conducted with 48 music teachers working in a provincial city. The data were obtained using the Personal Information Form and Job Satisfaction Scale developed by P. E. Spector. ANOVA, Kruskal-Wallis, t-test, and Mann-Whitney U test were used for data analysis. The results showed that music teachers' job satisfaction was moderate; while job satisfaction was not differed according to gender and institution, it differed according to participation in in-service training and seniority; the job satisfaction scores of the music teachers who participated in in-service training activities organized by the Ministry were statistically higher than those who did not and those with 1-5 years of experience were statistically higher than the senior teachers.
