MUSIC PREFERENCES OF THE FOREIGN STUDENTS HAVING AN EDUCATION IN TURKEY

The study is important in that it is the first one to deal with the foreign students’ music preferences at Ataturk University. The study group consists of 100 foreign students having an education at different faculties of the university. The study is a descriptive survey model. A survey consisting of 20 questions prepared by the researchers was used in the study as a means of collecting data. The study concluded that the foreign students had an interest in music and majority of them listened to traditional music and pop music. It was determined that as in Turkey, in the countries of most of them there were folk poets and the tradition of â??kl?k, especially in the Turkic countries. It was also determined that they were familiar with Turkish music before coming to Turkey as a result of the popularity of Turkish music in their countries, and that they already went to concerts of Turkish singers due to their inclination for music, thus knowing most of our Turkish singers.
