Abstract

Author(s): Ferzende Ä°DÄ°Z

Muraqabah which is an Arabic word for observing, protecting, controlling is for the subject to know that the God knows and sees every state of him all the time. Muraqabah is performed with the follower's turning inward, focusing his attention on his nafs and heart, controlling everything in his soul and mind, devoting themselves to the God and musing on deep thoughts, forgetting everything other than the God. Before Mujaddadiyya, Naqshbandi did not include a way of muraqabah which systematically depends on certain levels and includes being in murqaba. In fact, Imam Rabbani who is the founder of Mujaddadiyya did not mention a systematic type of muraqabah. It is presumed that the first Sufi to systematize muraqabah was MazharCân-?Cânân and the following sheiks of Mujaddadiyya. One of them was Sheik Tâhâ?mâdî who lived in Northern Iraq and died in 1918. Sheik Tâhâ who was a scholar and Sufi, and one of the Naqshbandi sheiks wrote many works but Minhâc which we address in this study is the only to reach the present day. In this manuscript, the author explains many different issues about Sufism and focuses on muraqabah in a significant part of the manuscript. He explains muraqabah systematically with its levels. This article deals with muraqabah in the context of Minhâc by Sheik Tâhâ ?mâdî.
