MOTIFS ABOUT ANIMALS IN THE LEGENDS OF TURKISH WORLD

The legend has been expressed as a mirror of society’s social and cultural richness for centuries. As a literary genre, legend which is dominated by the reality and the belief among the oral genres, in terms of integration of the facts of the daily life, it is a didactical genre. Expression of the wolf, horse, and eagle together with the names of the Turks lead us to study its sources. In cadre of our study, we will compare animal motives in the legend of preliteracy period with the social and the cultural life of the Turks. The selected legends that mention about animals were mapped according to the category of “B-Animals” of the Motif Index of Folk Literature and then analyzed and compared.
