Author(s): Burçe ULUBİLGİN ÇUHADAR

Me?k is a form of transfer and teaching in Turkish music. The method of me?k, which cannot be expressed only as a form of teaching; It can be expressed in the form of a master-apprentice relationship, in which a master, who specializes in Turkish music, conveys his repertoire, technique, style and interpretation to his student, as well as certain material and spiritual cultural elements and morality. Cultural mediation appears in cases where cultural elements cannot be acquired, even understood, without help and mediator. The cultural mediator is a concept used for people who fulfill the elements of mediator concept and hold a place between the two parties and who channel the transfer of cultural values to the concerned. Me?k method also appears as a form of mediation in the transfer of Turkish music and the culture and morality formed around it, which cannot be understood (learned) without the presence of an intermediary. In the conclusion of the study, when me?k method considered with its all these notions, it has a cultural mediation role in Turkish music and also it fulfils the tasks of cultural mediation as “transferring/carrying, reconciling, strengthening, preserving, transforming/changing and reproduce”.
