MEDIA LITERACY COMPETENCE OF THEOLOGY FACULTY STUDENTS (THE CASE OF RTEU FACULTY OF THEOLOGY)

With the development of technology, the media continues to increase its power and influence day by day. Media, sometimes take the role of resource on religious issues and sometimes and uses as a religious tool. At this point, it is important for individuals to be a good media literate, in order to better understand the messages presented by the media, to analyze and evaluate them. It is a necessity that the students of theology faculty who will have a profession in the field of religious education and training in the future should be a good media literate. For this reason, in this research it was aimed to reveal the media literacy skills of theology faculty students. The sample of the study consisted of 195 participants from 3rd and 4th grade students of RTEU Faculty of Theology. Media Literacy Skill Scale developed by Eri?ti and Erdem was used as a measurement tool . According to the results of the research; a significant difference was found in media literacy levels in the dimensions of general, access, analysis and evaluation according to the second teaching variable; access by family income; general and access according to take media literacy lesson; access according to read a publication on media literacy; access and analysis according to the status of the publication that was constantly monitored. No significant relationship was found between gender, achievement level and high school variables and media literacy levels of students. According to these results, the students of theology have a moderate level of media literacy, and there is a need for improvement efforts to become more qualified.
