LEADERSHIPTYPES: A COMPARATIVE RESEARCH AT THE PUBLIC AND PRIVATE EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS

The purpose of this study is to examination of the education institutions managers’ leadership characteristics in public and private sector by comparing. In accordance with this purpose, priority is given to leadership literature. To examine the research questions, leadership behavior of managers in public and private schools will be under focus. Required data will gathered by the survey method because of the convenience and time-budget limitation of the research. The research population is 1141 public and 93 private education institutions’ manager in Mersin /Turkey. Sample of the research consists of 375 managers those working for public and 74 managers from private education institutions in Mersin. To analyze gathered data, descriptive and group mean difference comparison (Anova and t test) of SPSS 16 software were employed. According to research results, there is no statistically significant difference between private and public school managers’ in leadership style. In addition, it is obviously seen that both public and private school managers have humanistic leadership style.
