Ethical and religious concerns regarding genetically modified products obtained through the use of modern biotechnological means have been raised in recent years and products in question have become a focal point for discussions. This paper analyzes the topic with regard to fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) after presenting ethical arguments about GMO’s both in Western and Islamic worlds. In this sense, legitimacy of producing this kind of products is discussed in the context of intervention of creation by taking into consideration of the potential risks and benefits asserted concerning GMO’s and probability of maleficence of nature and humankind. Furthermore, ruling about consumption of aforementioned foods is evaluated as part of validity of the original gene and expectative health risks.
