Abstract

In this study, evaluations regarding premarital studies, their importance, how successful they are and their gains are evaluated. Many of the marriages in today's societies begin with high expectations, which can be counted as imaginary. From past to present, differences are observed both in functioning and structure of family, and distribution of family roles. The responsibilities taken by family and variety of roles have led many families to seek counseling service since their premarital period. On the subject of reducing progressive divorce rates, “Premarital Partner Education” is one of the applications that developed countries focus on. Despite our strong family structure in our country, factors such as rapid urbanization, globalization and innovation in technology have led to an increase in divorce rates. Marriage requires knowledge. Finding a suitable partner is not sufficient for harmony in a marriage. Before marriage, individuals should be aware of whether they are sufficient or not in this subject. First of all, they should know themselves well. Personal development is important before marriage. An important point is that getting professional support by couples in order to build a healthy marriage averts many dangers that can occur. Psychological counseling done with couples and premarital trainings resemble to the maintenance of a car carefully done before a journey. If we evaluate five common problems that often bring couples to the point of divorce according to their importance as; communication, personal growth patterns distant to each other, sexuality-deception-decreasing closeness, economic distress and lack of understanding of marital expectations, we can say that there is a need for premarital studies that could mean a kind of grafting which will prevent divorce by couples. Preparatory programs for marriage and premarital trainings are subjects that essentially need to be considered as a country policy. Prior to marriage, it is necessary to be informed about all stages of marriage. Conscious preparation is necessary before marriage. This, in turn, requires a planned, conscious preparation. The importance of knowing problems that may arise in marriage in advance and the awareness of measures to be taken are also revealed through scientific studies on this subject. Instead of creating awareness on individual level, a social consciousness should be targeted. There seems to be a need for studies on ministry level in order to reduce divorces and to establish healthy marriages.
