Abstract

Author(s): Gizem Nur KILIÇ

Tales are texts based on the characteristic features of nations. They provide clues about the economic, socio-cultural, and political issues of their related societies. That's why, for maintaining cultural memory it is of utmost importance to collect, investigate and interpret such clues. For this very reason, various methods can be used. One of these is V. Propp's "Structural Analysis" method. This method is used for analysing structural elements that form a tale. It aims to determine basic moves- called 'functions'- of the tale, form a schema and create a common structural frame for every tale. In this current study, within the scope of the structural analysis method, we aimed to investigate the tale "Mehmed-E?k?ya" compiled by Pertev Naili Boratav. The study consisted of two sections. In the first section, related literature on Propp's method was provided and in the second section, the tale "Mehmed-E?k?ya" was investigated through the structural analysis method developed by V. Propp.
