Abstract

Author(s): Ali Yılmaz GÜNDÜZ

As in the world, development disparities between regions carry on in Turkey causing a major problem. There are significant differences between the eastern and western parts of the country with respect to developmental differences. While the Marmara, Aegean, Central Anatolia and Mediterranean regions which form the western part of Turkey, are developed, East and Southeast Anatolia regions and the mountainous parts of the Black Sea region remains under the average of Turkey's income and regional development. Although it has been tried to pay attention to the balanced development of the country since the establishment of the Republic, it is seen that these efforts have intensified especially with the planned period. However, regional development, following a fluctuating trend, has not developed sufficiently at conceptual and implementation levels. The reason for this is have not been following a balanced and stable policy and terrorist events occuring especially in Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia Region pushing out desirable investments planned to make in those regions.
